PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FRIEDRICH'S MARKET NOW ACCEPTING SNAP / EBT PAYMENTS
December 2, 2017 - Friedrich's Market is happy to announce that they can now accept SNAP / EBT payments (formerly known as Food Stamps). On October 17th, 20017 Friedrich's Market opened an urban market in Downtown St. Joseph. Friedrich's Market received a Stock Healthy Shop Healthy grant in July 2017, at the time downtown St. Joseph was considered a food desert.
With a focus on increasing access to healthy foods for everyone, those in our community who rely on SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) to help feed themselves and their families can now utilize those benefits at Friedrich's Market to purchase fresh, healthy, quality local foods. St. Joseph has more than 12,000 households enrolled in the SNAP program.
Households can use SNAP benefits to buy foods for the household to eat, such as:
breads and cereals;
fruits and vegetables;
meats, fish and poultry; and
Seeds and plants which produce food for the household to eat.
Seventy percent of all food stamp participants are in families with children, while more than one-quarter of participants are elderly or disabled.
If you know of someone who has SNAP benefits or are a part of a local community organization (e.g., church, health center, school, community organization) that might have access to folks with SNAP benefits, please spread the word to them.
The market is open Tuesday thru Saturday, from 10 am to 7 pm. Friedrich’s Market is located at 1139 Frederick Ave, St. Joseph. Free parking is available in the market parking lot on the west side of the building, or is easily accessed from public transportation. On November 1st, 2017 the market launched an online ordering and delivery service to their customers.
